Pulpotomies (Baby root canal)

When a cavity in a baby tooth becomes very deep and reaches the nerve, a pulpotomy may be recommended. This procedure, sometimes called a “baby root canal,” removes the damaged portion of the nerve inside the tooth while leaving the healthy part intact. A soothing medicine is then placed to protect the remaining nerve and encourage healing.
Pulpotomies allow us to save the natural tooth, prevent pain or infection, and maintain proper chewing and space for the permanent teeth to come in.
The tooth is restored with a stainless steel crown (a “princess crown” or “Iron Man tooth”) to keep it strong and functional.
